Story By Brian Walker – Walkapedia (Dylan Duvall Photography) Sweet Springs, MO | October 13, 2017 – Only expanding the storyline of what has become a record-breaking season, Oklahoma’s Frank Flud continued his winning ways on Thursday night as he made his way to the Show-Me Showdown and scored a dominating A-Class victory. Returning to the Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex for the first time since his impressive Outlaw win at the Pete Frazier Memorial in September, Flud picked up right where he left off with another dominating night. After setting quicktime, the “Legendary” Pryor, OK native charged from eighth-to-first in his heat race, won his qualifier from the pole, and overcame a bad redraw by winning the preliminary feature from fifth!

With 32 entries set for A-Class action, the night would begin with single-car qualifying and Frank Flud taking quicktime honors with a time of 11.412 seconds. Timing in behind Flud was Tyler Rennison (11.510), Garrett Hulsey (11.530), Riley Goodno (11.561) and Nathan Benson (11.574). Heat race triumphs would go to Flud, Trey Gropp, Vance Weber and Brent McMillan, while qualifiers were won by Flud and Miles Paulus.

The top-six redraw would switch the lineup around as a pair of BOSS Chassis drivers, Nathan Benson and Tyler Rennison, shared the front row. Jumping out to the early lead, Benson, a multi-time Show-Me Showdown champion, began pulling away from the field until Flud worked his way into second on lap five. Cutting away at Benson’s advantage lap-by-lap, Flud was soon hounding the No. 2B for the top spot.

A close call came on lap ten as Flud and Benson made contact while battling for the top spot, but luckily both drivers kept it under control and continued to fight for P1. Shortly thereafter, Flud would take advantage of lap traffic and move past Benson for the race lead on lap 12. From there, Flud continually pulled away and checked out with a huge lead in hand. As he worked his way through lap traffic, all eyes were on the battle for second as Benson had his hands full with Dylan Kadous.

When the checkered flag finally dropped on the 25-lapper, Frank Flud had pulled away to dominate the A-Class preliminary feature and finish with a 2.7 second advantage over second-place. The impressive triumph for the Oklahoman only added to his unreal 2017 season as he nears a whopping 60+ victories in his Driven Midwest, Outlaw Wings, Metric Cycles, Keizer Wheels No. 81.

Coming home in second-place was Concordia, MO’s Nathan Benson, finishing third in the TKH Motorsports, Sawyer Chassis No. 21H was Topeka, Kansas’ Dylan Kadous, grabbing fourth was a former Tulsa Shootout A-Class champion in Miles Paulus, and closing out the top five was local Sweet Springs racer, Tom Curran. The remaining lock-in drivers were Garrett Hulsey (6th), Chase Porter (7th), Vance Weber (8th), Tyler Rennison (9th), Riley Goodno (10th), Kameron Key (11th), and Trey Gropp (12th).
